The DMV Anarchist Bookfair will be a space where authors, publishers, activists, and community members come together to explore alternative perspectives, exchange ideas, and question conventional notions of power and authority.
We will feature workshops, book and zine vendors, artists, and music. Beyond serving as a marketplace, our vision is to create a space for connection and empowerment.
The DMV Anarchist Bookfair is committed to inclusivity and accessibility. We ask that patrons wear masks while attending, and we will provide masks at the event. We welcome any and all individuals who are interested in contributing to a more just and equitable society.

Violence and Nonviolence – Beyond simple dichotomies
Is violence or nonviolence the right approach to social change? History shows that successful movements have always used a range of tactics, challenging the idea of a strict divide. This workshop will act as a serious discussion on strategy, context, and what truly leads to effective action.
3 pm- 4 pm
St Paul Principles
How can activists work together while using different tactics? The St. Paul Principles offer a simple set of guidelines for solidarity and respect. In this workshop, we’ll break down what they are, where they came from, and how they can help build stronger, more effective movements.
Flash Fiction on Social Housing
What can community-owned, truly affordable housing look and feel like? During this writing workshop, we’ll draw from the social housing model as inspiration for our city. Join your neighbors in imagining the housing we want to live in and hear from Save DC Public Land on their organizing efforts to make social housing a reality.
Organizing Conversations 101:
To build our movement, we need to learn a foundational skill, the one- on-one organizing conversation. Building relationships based on shared issues and values is best for long-term organizing and mobilizing. We’ll learn the basics of listening, agitating, and moving people into action. This will be an interactive and fun session, so join us!
LOCATION
The DMV Anarchist Bookfair will be held on
Saturday, May 17th from
2 – 8 pm at
St Stephen’s Episcopal Church
1525 Newton St NW DC
St Stephens is at the corner of 16th St. NW and Newton St. NW in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of northwest Washington, D.C.
Transportation:
By car: Much of the area around the church is a dense residential area, but street parking can usually be found at most times of the day. Parking in the small lot between the church building and 16th St. is reserved for people with limited mobility, and a sticker, available from the church office, must be displayed in your car if you park there.
By public transportation: The closest Metrorail station is Columbia Heights, at 14th St. NW and Irving St. NW, just 3 blocks south and one block east of the church. Numerous bus lines run near the church, especially north and south on 16th St. NW, a major thoroughfare in the city.
